1. Briefly describe the position being requested (for example, biology faculty with expertise in anatomy).
Accounting Faculty, one position. The Accounting department has seen significant growth over the last several years. Academic year 2012/13 our census count was 1963 in 2017/18 our censue was 2790 a 42% increase. In the last year we have increased the number of sections from 47 to 55. To ensure that we can continue to offer a breadth of high-quality face to face and online classes we need a minimum of one additional faculty member. All faculty will teach transfer and CTE courses. All of our courses meet the core mission of the college. In addition, all courses are part of either our Accounting degree program or one of our thirteen Certificates of Specialization (Accounting Assistant, Accounting Essentials for Business Professionals, CPA Exam Preparation: Auditing and Attestation, CPA Exam Preparation: Business Environment and Concepts, CPA Exam Preparation: Financial Accounting and Reporting, CPA Exam Preparation: Regulation, Enrolled Agent Exam Preparation, Individual Tax Professional, Personal Financial Planning, Preparation for a Master's Degree in Accounting, Preparation for a Master's Degree in Taxation, Tax Preparer I, Tax Preparer II. Furthermore, the full-time faculty members must support the large number of part time accounting faculty members. With these large demands it is not possible to complete all required work within our contract time. Our two senior faculty will retire in the next two to five years and we need to plan for their replacement as well.

2. Describe the rationale and motivation for the request. Include information on program LOAD; ratios of full-time FTEF to hourly FTEF and full-time to part-time faculty; recent faculty retirements; any mandates and regulations affecting the position; and any additional reasons, including impact on the community at large.
If your answer is more than 2000 characters (approximately 300 words), please upload a Word document below (10 MB or less). If you’re not sure, please upload your answer. Please upload text only; we cannot ensure that non-text such as images, diagrams, or charts will be retained in the final submission.
Load has remained flat at 546 from 2015/16 to 2017/18. We continue to exceed the overall collage goal of 525. We continue to offer additional courses and alternative format courses. For example last year we offered eight-week early and late start sections of of Accounting Procedures, Ten-Key Skills, Accounting Cycle Survey, Time Value of Money Survey, Financial Statement Analysis Survey, Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting and Accounting Ethics. Enrollments have been strong across all sections. We believe that increasing and diveresifying the number of courses has increased enrollment while keeping our load high. Going forward we would like to create new CTE courses including CPA exam preparation courses, taxation courses, personal financial planning, and accounting software courses. In addition, we would like to offer an online section of every ACTG/Tax course. In order to maintain the quality of these programs additional full time faculty are needed.

3. Discuss how the position will help the department and/or division meet goals and support student learning as described in most recent program review.
If your answer is more than 2000 characters (approximately 300 words), please upload a Word document below (10 MB or less). If you’re not sure, please upload your answer. Please upload text only; we cannot ensure that non-text such as images, diagrams, or charts will be retained in the final submission.
Transfer: New Faculty will teach transfer level courses (e.g., UC, CSU, IGETC, SB).

Career and Technical Education (CTE): We currently offer six CTE tracks. Demand for Accounting professionals is high. The majority of our students are able to find work on completion of our program.

We are working with the Strong Workforce Development Grant team to ensure our courses meet employer demand and are relevant to employers.

Ceiling mounted screen projectors in the accounting classrooms, 14-201, 202, and 205. I add this every year since I don’t know when ours will wear out.

1
The partition separating rooms 14-202 and 14-204 should be removed, which will merge the two rooms into one classroom. The merged room will require new fixed tables similar to those in 14-201, and the audio-visual features will need to be moved (ceiling mounted LCD projector, projector screen, speakers, instructor podium AV controls, whiteboard).
2
The classroom, 14-202, is underutilized because the room configuration only permits comfortable seating for 20 students, while a merged classroom could comfortably seat 50 students. Also, 14-202 has only door to the hallway, making the room unsafe for egress during emergency.
3
History: When building 14 was remodeled, classroom 14-202 was partitioned into a large room (now 202) and a small conference room (14-204). The small conference room (14-204) was used as the Accounting Tutoring Lab. When the Learning Center in building 10 opened, tutoring services were moved to the Learning Center. The Accounting Tutoring Lab was discontinued. Therefore room 14-204 is not used and it is currently wasted space.
4
The following facilities upgrades are required for the accounting classrooms, 14-201, 202, 205: • The windows and window coverings need repair. • The HVAC system is noisy and unreliable.
5
The blowers are too loud and make teaching in the room difficult. o The heat often does not come on when the room is cold and cannot be shut off when the room is too warm. o The air conditioners in 14-201 and 14-205 cannot be controlled by the room thermostat. The air conditioners do not come on when the room is warm and they do not shut off when the room is cold. The air conditioners often run 24/7, which is a waste of resources.
