| 1. Given the initiatives and career needs for students undecided about their major, Year 1/Promise (which mandates career counseling contacts) and Guided Pathways, which both plan to have career counseling benchmarks, as well as the general career counseling needs for the school as a whole, we need a career counselor to meet the needs of our students. As of now, we have 1 adjunct who is dedicated to career, and there is more of a demand for career counseling than she is able to meet. We had this position, but upon retirement of our previous career counselor, it was not filled. 2. General counselor with a teaching emphasis to meet the needs of students in general counseling. We currently are in need of additional counseling faculty who teach some of our counseling courses, and this would help meet that need as well as alleviate some of the load on the remaining faculty. We have multiple counselors on reduced load for the forseeable future, thus further adding to the need for an additional general counselor. 3. MCC/DC counselor is needed to help support the student populations that are served in those areas, which are our ESL, foster youth, undocumented/AB540, basic skills students, and others who are from populations with demonstrable equity gaps but are not eligible for EOPS. Adjunct requests: 1. Umoja Counselor/Coordinator 2. MCC/DC, special programs, learning communities counselors and/or additional hours. For learning communities, especially MANA and WEZ to provide appropriate and additional support to those student populations. | |
3. Discuss how the position will help the department and/or division meet goals and support student learning as described in most recent program review.
