| The 3D art program provides students with the opportunity to explore and express themselves through person exploration and interaction with media in three dimensions. Through an introduction to three-dimensional design (Art 401) and newly expanded sequences in ceramics and sculpture, the program support art majors, students in other fields, and those with a life-long passion for art.
The accessibility of Art 401 and the introductory levels of ceramics and sculpture makes these course attractive for new students and has allowed it to be offered in local high schools, supporting Strategic Goal #1 – Improve Student Success. The advanced levels of the ceramics and sculpture sequences support Strategic Goal #2 – Promote Academic Excellence.

| The last program review I focused on changes to the material fees and the definition of materials. Most of the issues I had concerns with have been resolved. We have a system where the extra supplies needed by the students can be provided. However it is not a ideal solution, and may need some refining. | |

| There were two changes instituted from the last PR .One was the writing and publishing of a textbook and publishing that text on canvas. The second was using the grade function in canvas to log the student progress as they completed their project during the course of the semester. While the grades of the students have risen because of this change the success rate has stayed flat years 15-16 was 78.8 years 16-18 was 78.8. However the percentage of retention rose slightly from 89.1 to 89.7 during the same period. The total number of student enrolling rose from 74 to 112 more than a 30% jump. The SLO comletion rate is up as reflected by the rise in letter grades. A recent change was to double the number of required work for ceramics 1. | |

| There are too few black students in my classes as they have historically been excluded from the art world. Also mainly those student from a privileged background would be aware of the great potential for earnings in the field. Multi millions of dollars are spent for a single work of art. For example a recent black American artist (Basquiat) work sold for $110 Million. As the initiative to place students in fields where they believe they can earn a living goes forward I believe those people of color and not from a privileged class will not pursue art, because historically they have been excluded and are not aware of the possibilities. Also a student not of a privileged background may be afraid of the risk associated with a career in the arts. On a positive note the numbers of hispanic from years 16 to 17 has risen from 22 to 44 a 100% jump mainly though word of moth and increases in the number of hispanic students overall. Retention of the students of color is the focus of the department. By adding new artist of color as they are recognized by the field is the best way to encourage and retain students of color in the arts. | |

| I have always lectured about the possibilities of 3-D art as it about ideas as much as objects. I am encouraged by the recent trends in the field and the increase in media coverage of the arts as part of the fabric of a society. I plan to continue to add contemporary issues and trends into my lectures. As I believe all the arts are a living, changing, moving not a dead static historical artifact.I will add 5 new artist to the viewing list. As well as adding at least 5 new artist of color and 5 new present day artist to my lectures and discussions. | |
