It has become increasingly clear in recent years, possibly more so during this last Program Review cycle and writing, that operating the Architecture Department with only a small (3) team of well-intentioned adjunct faculty, may not be a sustainable concept or task.
The time and attention required to best serve the students' needs as well as the work to develop and attain the various lofty goals and objectives required for student success as well as the long term viability of the department and curriculum, is beyond what can be done on a regular basis within an adjunct faculty's "spare time"...even when kindly compensated.
Adjunct teaching by practicing architects is still an intellectually elegant practice that can well serve students and architects mutually.
However "leading" a department such that it can function and develop to its fullest potential requires a bit more of time, energy and compassionately skilled focus, that in today's academic environment would seem to be "best" served and undertaken by a dedicated full time faculty person.

3. Discuss how the position will help the department and/or division meet goals and support student learning as described in most recent program review.
If your answer is more than 2000 characters (approximately 300 words), please upload a Word document below (10 MB or less). If you’re not sure, please upload your answer.
